About The Event

Join us as we remember those lost to Drug Overdose and to raise awareness for the cause. The Grief Following a Drug Overdose Death Support Group at HOPE for Bereaved is hosting its First Annual Light up the Night for Overdose Awareness.

The event will take place on International Overdose Awareness Day—August 31st—at the Butterfly Garden of HOPE on Onondaga Lake Parkway. The event begins at 5:30 pm with a pot-luck style dinner. The formal program will begin at 6:30 pm and will include speakers, whose lives have been touched by overdose and addiction, followed by a reading of names, moments of silence and memorial tribute. This will be a family-friendly event and all are invited to attend. Those who have lost a loved one to a drug overdose are encouraged to bring a picture to display on a memorial photo board.

For the entire week of August 24th-August 31st, a display of purple pinwheels will be at the Butterfly Garden of HOPE. Each pinwheel symbolizes a life lost to a drug overdose each day.
